Want to be in a movie? HBO makes casting call
A casting call for extras in an HBO movie will be held downtown Saturday. Recount, which follows the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election in Florida, will begin filming in Jacksonville early next month. Extras from college age to the elderly are needed, in particular the elderly, said representatives from Jacksonville-based Martini Shot Casting. So are those who resemble George H.W. Bush, Jeb Bush, Laura Bush, Al Gore, Joe or Hadassah Lieberman or Clarence Thomas.
The casting call is at the Ed Ball Building, 214 N. Hogan St., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Applicants should take a recent photo of themselves. They can also send a resume and head shot to recountcast@aol.com. Information can also be found at www.martinishotcasting.com.
Juvenile diabetes chapter to host reception, auction
The seventh annual Miracles in the Moonlight Gala, "A Magical Night for a Cure," is set for Saturday to benefit the North Florida chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The auction will include a PGA Tour dream package, complete with a trip to The Tour Championship in Atlanta and a playing spot in the Pro-Am.
The event will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, followed by dinner, music and a live auction. Tickets are still available by calling (904) 739-2101, e-mailing northflorida@jdrf.org or going to www.jdrf.org/northflorida.
Charity motorcycle run scheduled for Saturday
Jacksonville's Bold City Mandarin Lions Club's Charity Poker Run rumbles onto the road Saturday morning at Big Bike Motorcycles at 3842 Sunbeam Road.
Registration for the run, in memory of District 35L Gov. Rocky Fowler, is from 9 to 11 a.m., with motorcycles making stops in Bayard, Jacksonville's Westside and Orange Park before ending at the Outback Crab Shack at 8155 County Road 13 in St. Johns County. The poker run is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger, with prizes.
CLAY COUNTY: Day of remembrance set for murder victims
Clay County will take part this year in the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, hosting an event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Orange Park Town Hall Park at Kingsley Avenue and U.S. 17.
The event is designed to give friends and family members of murder victims - as well as community members - the chance to remember those who die of violent crime and to recognize the impact of homicide on the community.
There will be a balloon release and a moment of silence.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY: Youth basketball league forming for ages 9 to 14
Registration has begun for those ages 9 to 14 who want to take part in the free St. Johns County Recreation and Parks youth basketball league.
Parents need a child's birth certificate and a completed youth basketball registration form, which is available at co-st.johns.fl.us under the Recreation and Parks page. Registration ends Oct. 19.
